Pippy Longstocking and others

Despite the icy coldness yesterday I looked at the "Shrove Monday Procession" which parades through the streets of Münster each year, cheered on by some hundreds of revellers. I especially liked to observe the children in their costumes, the children are so happy to pick up all the sweets which are thrown from the carnival floats (s. pic on the top right), the mummy of this 'Pippy Longstocking' was also dressed up like Pippy - here a little montage of some impressions. It is a must to eat jelly donuts on  Shrove Monday, I enjoyed them, too.

It is a very colourful procession, and must be attractive to youngsters, Philine.
Philine: It is a kind of family feast - and so many youngsters! Many thanks, Ray!
i liked all the images, Philine, but my favourite is the sleeping baby on the shoulder and the girl with orange hair, showing her "attitude face" smile
Philine: I am feeling the same as you - thank you kindly, Ayush!

she is too cute
Philine: I agree with you -I have some pics of 'Pippi Langstrumpf' as we say in German. Many thanks, Sherri!
Fun set of images, Philine! I loved Pippy when I was young!
Philine: Yes, she also belongs to my childhood. Many thanks, Elizabeth!

C'est très coloré. J'aime la petite fille maquillée.
Philine: Je suis d'accord avec vous. J'aime Fifi Brindacier. Merci bien, Martine!
Bonne journée

Now this looks like a lot of full and very colourful. I've never heard of of any celebrations for Shrove Monday before. Are the schools on holiday as they are here this week.

Seeing the Chinese lion reminds me of the idiots on my local radio station. The local news mentions an event which featured "illuminated colourful lion dancing to celebrate the Chinese New Year" but the dumb presenter said he'd never heard of illuminated line dancing before and his dancing is best done in the dark. I despair!
Philine: Yes, the schools are on holiday on Shrove Monday and today (Fastnachtsdienstag). I never heard of such an illuminated line dancing. In Cologne and Mainz the great carnival floats have political themes (Merkel, Schulz, Trump, Theresa May and the Brexit ...). Many thanks, Alan!

I used to love doughnuts. I've gone off them, though.
Philine: I ate two doughnuts (Berliner or Pfannkuchen in German) yesterday.

We this is all very colourful and fun for the kiddies Philine. As far as I know we do not have this sort of Shrove Tuesday event in the UK. But of course we do have pancakes
Philine: We do have only Rosenmontag/ Shrove Monday and Fastnachtsdienstag today. The schools are on holiday for two days. Our pancakes are called "Berliner" or 'Pfannkuchen' (filled with jam, nutella, alcohol ..., I prefer the simple ones with powdered sugar). Many thanks, Chris!

A great way to brighten up the winter, Philine
Philine: The most interesting carnival processions are in Düsseldorf, Cologne and Mainz with some political carnival floats. http://www.rp-online.de/nrw/staedte/duesseldorf/karneval/karneval-2018-in-duesseldorf-so-feierten-die-jecken-den-rosenmontagszug-aid-1.7389306 - many thanks, Lisl!
I wish I had known about eating doughnuts on Shrove Monday! Today is our traditional pancake day ...Shrove tuesday.
Philine: Since last week the bakeries offer pancakes, filled with jam, chocolate, alcohol ... - many thanks, Bill!

It reminds me of St Patrick’s dat secedes Philine, especially the green and the girl with the red hair.
Philine: Yes, green and red hair are told to be Irish. The girls presents Pippi Langstrumpf by Astrid Lindgren, well- known in GB, too, as I assume. Many thanks, Chad!
Looks like a lot of fun going on. Picking up on your reply to Bill your pancakes over there sound delicious.
Philine: Yes, they are delicious, I prefer the simple pancakes filled with jam and with powdered sugar. Many thanks, Brian!
I have not heard of Shrove Monday though certainly know of Shrove Tuesday.
Philine: We say Rosenmontag, tr. by google Shrove Monday. Shrove Tuesday is a rather normal day here, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the start of the the Time for Lent. Many thanks, Mary!

You capture the spirit of those people very well, specially from the little kids!
