The coast must be strong a strong influence for artists of all genres. The painting looks a bit like the very first images from early digital cameras - that has quite vague detail; so very different from the today.
Philine: I understand your point - Fox Talbot in Lacock for example, but in b&w. Yes, the Atlantic coast in France was a great inspiration for the impressionists, we saw also paintings by Monet, Signac, Bonnard ...

Seurat's style is so distinctive
Philine: The impressionists were inspired by the Japanese culture as we saw yesterday in the exhibition about the "Japanfever" in the Arp Museum (partly originally an old railway station). Many thanks, Chris!
Magnifique tant l'original que cette toile ..
Philine: Merci beaucoup, Martine!

An interesting juxtaposition, Philine
Philine: I could have posted also a painting by Claude Monet. Many thanks, Lisl!
The draw of the coastline for photographers and painters . A fine comparison here Philine
Philine: Oh yes, but today we are thinking of the dangers above the Atlantic Ocean. Did you read what Larry from North- Carolina wrote? Many thanks, Bill!

A fine painting in the pointalist vein. You, like Georges, are an admirer of the ocean.
Philine: But now looking at the hurricane in the USA we have other feelings. Many thanks, Chad! A painting by Monet we saw yeaterday, too, shows the wild, rough ocean in France.
The painting fits in nicely with your coastal shot.
Philine: I could have added also a photo of a painting by Claude Monet which shows the rough and wild ocean. Many thanks, Brian!
I know his style well and am surprised that it looks as though this were a wool rug hooking.
Philine: Perhaps the photo of the painting is not the best one. Many thanks,Mary!
A fine side-by-side image, Philine. I've always wanted to take pictures of artwork in museums but thought it would be forbidden.
Philine: I asked if I would be allowed to take pictures. Nowadays it is often allowed, but not in all exhibitions and museums. Many thanks, Beverly!
