"Happiness is not something ready made , it...

comes from your own actions." (Dalai Lama)

Sculpture by Bernhard Hoetger in Worpswede - called  "Das Licht/The Light" oder "Bonze des Humors/Bonze of Humour" - "Humour lies at the heart of Buddhist thought and practice. Indeed, according to Buddhist history, it was a central factor in the enlightenment experience of the monk Kashyapa. As you may recall, during one of his discourses the Buddha fell silent and held up a single golden flower. Kashyapa responded not with ideas or words but with a smile. From this smile, this spontaneous opening of the heart-mind, this direct transmission of the truth from one being to another, came the Zen tradition. Or so the story goes." In my feeling this Buddha evokes simply good mood.

I thought it should be something comforting after the last upsetting political events - and I like to add some relaxing music (admittedly, a bit kitschy) we are using at the exercises in our Tai Chi group.

Ms Tripod Carrier has a Buddha statue in her home; it seems faulty, though, as she has more of her fair share of misfortune. I have told her to take it back and complain. It looks like this one has had many visitors and I hope they have gone away with their moods lifted.
Philine: Oh poor Ms. Tripod Carrier! You have to lift up her moods! Many thanks, Alan!

Laughter is always good so long as it is not aimed at somebody.
Philine: Mrs. May might not feel like laughing, but she has to smile in order to spread optimism. Many thanks, Chad!
He is having a good old belly laugh. You can't help smiling. The music is , as you say.....grin
Philine: I like your expression "good old belly laugh" and I can imagine yourself at some moments. Many thanks, Bill!
I think the laughing Buddha is in a perfect setting.
I like how this Buddha is holding his belly while he has a good laugh. A happy image to brighten our day, Philine.

He has a lot of fun, I think I rather like a "normal" Buddha, Philine. I do agree with the quote though and I love your music with the Tai Chi group. Great pictures with it too.
I actually commented on this on the 28th, Philine, but...again, how can we not be happy when we see this!

I love this from the smile to the clutching of the belly in laughter. It has given me my first big smile of the day, so well done, Philine!
Seems a happy fellow!
