Stagecoach - some time ago

seen in Aachen at the old pub "Zum Postwagen" nr. the Town Hall.  "Der Postwagen (früher Postkutsche) ist das einzige erhaltene Holzhaus (the only preserved wooden house) in Aachen, dessen Geschichte bis 1657 zurückreicht (whose history goes back to 1657). Es zeigt eine historische Holzbauart, die in Aachen vor dem verheerenden Stadtbrand von 1656 häufig Verwendung fand."

Yearning

by Joseph von Eichendorff

The stars were shining with golden light
as I stood alone by the window
and listened to the distant sound
of the posthorn in the still countryside.
My heart became inflamed in my body,
and I thought secretly to myself:
Ah, if only I could journey with them
into that magnificent summer night!

J'aime ces anciennes enseignes. On en voit rarement maintenant.

A most agreeable folk memory in the form of a sign Philine

It's good to see that the main colour of the postwagen is still used in modern day post vehicles and boxes. I like the windows of the lovely old building.
Philine: Yes, the post- yellow is still used in our country. I saw the yellow DHL- vehicles also in GB and NL. Many thanks, Alan! It is fine that you have so many delights, I read that so many people are stressed and depressed by the Brexit drams.

This must be one of the best inn signs, Philine
Philine: Oh no, I saw the best inn signs in England. I hope to see some of them when I'll be in Royal Berkshire in May/June. Many thanks, Lisl!
An old coaching inn from the days when it took several days to travel what only takes a few hours now by car
Philine: Oh yes, there are some stories about coaching travel in former times. Many thanks, Bill!

Great photograph Philine, I look forward to this little series. Coach travel must have been very uncomfortable then, but all is relative I suppose.
Philine: I know coach travel only from old films, for example about Jane Austen's novels. Many thanks, Chad! You could show inn signs from England.
Looks like a fine old building!
Philine: Yes, it is. Aachen is a very old city, worth to be visted, not only because of the Cathedral. Many thanks, Prof. Wilson!
I like the look of the glass here.
I bought a book 25 years ago of stained glass patterns of inn and tavern signs.
Philine: Yes, these are fine windows, 'Butzenscheiben' in German. Many thanks, Mary!
Love the decorative look of this charming image, Philine.
Philine: Many thanks, Beverly!
The picures you've shown from time to time of Aachen are so interesting, Looking back I was only 21 when I went there in 1966 with a group of lads of the same age and at the time wasn't interested in the more serious things in life, apart from the Dom I didn't take any notice of lovely old buildings like this!!!
Philine: Yes, I recall that you visited Aachen as lad, I think as elder or older person you see quite more than as young girl or boy. Many thanks, Brian!

A beautiful poem to a very special old house! I know and love it very much!
Philine: You might know Aachen very well, a really lovely, old town! Heel bedankt, Salima! Tomorrow I'll go with a garden group to Gelderland and Overijssel (Raalte). The weather is wonderful.
i can't think of a better sign to announce a roadside pub Philine....petersmile
