Munstershire

"Saint John of Nepomuk (or John Nepomucene) (c. 1345 – March 20, 1393) is the saint of Bohemia (Czech Republic) who was drowned in the Vltava river (in Prague) at the behest of Wenceslaus, King of the Romans and King of Bohemia. Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against calumnies and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods and drowning."

Therefore he is often standing on bridges, so in Burg Vischering, one of Munstershire's watercastles (visited by six SCrs), freshly restored now.

This is going to be interesting Philine. I regret I have not heard of the unfortunate St John..
I remember this castle so well, Philine...and the story of St. John of Nepomuk. Thanks for the memory.

Dangerous work, this confessing business. Wonderful how the old 'nobles' got rid of their problems. They also often got rid of debtors, by killing them.

Lovely pictures of the castle. The top right picture even shows an underwater bridge smile

Very interesting, I´ll try to visit the surrounding a bit more, next time when I´ll come to Münster! Are you satisfied with the results of the European election yesterday, Philine? Its amazing that in Germany the Grünen (Green) became so big!
What a fine building, I would like to visit that.
They would have to drown me too before I would tell someone's secrets.
Looks like a well-weathered statue!
