E-Scooter Friday

In Berlin and other cities of the world you can see different sorts of transportation like here in East- Berlin in an unusually quiet  hour - trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams, buses, cars, bikes, motorbikes, taxis, lorries, ambulances, rikshas, ships  - and nowadays hundreds of E-scooters, mostly used by the touris, often a new danger in our streets,  they are not allowed to be used on the  pedestrian paths.

Electric Personal Travel Aids are recoming very popular...even Our SC buddies are adofting them.
Philine: In Thailand, too? The E- bikes are very popular for the elder people here. Many thanks, Ray!
Après plusieurs accidents, l'utilisation de ces trottinettes est très règlementée ici.
Philine: Oui, une règlement est necessaire. Les trottoirs sont interdits pour ces trottinettes en Allemagne. Merci bien, Martine!

Ghastly things

However I wish I was walking around Berlin taking in the sights and consuming bratwurst and beer
Philine: The main pic shows the rather ugly area of Berlin around the Alexanderplatz, the right one below the royal Bebel Square 'Unter den Linden'. Yes, Berlin is very inspiring, but also stressful. You can consume a currywurst everywhere. Many thanks, Chris!
I actually think it would be fun to use one of these, Philine, as long as it is in a safe place.
Philine: I think in Amsterdam these things would be too dangerous. Heel bedankt, Ginnie!

sad.... What is wrong with walking and enjoying instead of being a pest to the traffic. If a cardriver hits such a fool, than the cardriver is the bad person.... those e-scooters think they are the "king of the road" and what about traffic rules...sad
Great pictures of Berlin though.
Philine: You are right, the streets are now tooooo full -and then think of all the bikes in Berlin and Münster and ... - some accidents have already happened. There are some traffic rules, the e-scooters are not allowed on the pedestrian paths. Heel bedankt, Astrid!
Je rejoins Martine par son commentaire
Philine: Je la rejoins aussi - merci bien, Claudine!

They are increasingly common in the UK, too. Unlike electric bikes, they are not speed regulated. There are scant regard for laws as to where one is allowed to scoot or cycle in the UK and there are few officials to enforce any regulations now with the cutbacks. Can you go up that tower with the knobbly thing on it?
Philine: They are speed regulated here, and there are also some other regulations, but the streets become now too full, also in my home town with the lots of bikers. The tower is the well-known Berliner Funkturm/radio-television tower - with a lift upstairs and a restaurant which is turning around every hour. Many thanks, Alan!
I can imagine these things being a menace
Philine: They are unfamiliar to us I think. As child I had a simple roller, too. Many thanks, Bill!

I have seen people on these things, a step in the right direction perhaps.
Philine: Yes, Germany wants to be forerunner in electric mobility, e- cars, e-scooter ..., but there are still problems. In Berlin I felt the e-scooters to be a 'menace as Bil said. Many thanks, Chad!

I was in Berlin, roughly 14 months ago. All those transport mediums that you mention were there (including Trabants smile). There were not many e-scooters. I can remember one group of a tour guide leading his guests - all on e-scooters. I do remember many rental e-bikes. The many different sorts of transportation, is one of the distinctive features of Berlin, as I remember it.
Philine: I think you saw "Segway Personal Transporters", the E-Scooters are a very new phenomenon, a bit earlier already they have been seen in Paris as I read and heard. You will soon see them in SA, too. The traffic in Berlin is too busy, but in general well managed by the BVG (buses, trams, S- and U-Bahn). Heel bedankt, Louis!

I don´t like the E-scooters, they are made for lazy people, same like those bloody segway platforms to stand upon :-(
The best way to discover a city is by normally walking! Second best is cycling, but nothing else! Offcourse when somebody has a handicap they need a help somehow, but thats very different.
Philine: I agree with you, Salima! I liked to use in Berlin the buses, trams, S- and U- Bahnen by my rather cheap Welcome Card. Next week I'll go with the Christian-Jewish Society to Berlin and 'Umgebung' again, we'll visit also the Lager Ravensbrück. I wish you a fine weekend, hartelijke groetjes!
I fell off a bicycle yesterday. I am staying off two wheels for awhile.
Philine: Oh, poor Mary! After two hip - operations I don't use any bike, the traffic here in my home town is too busy, too. Very good wishes for you!
I'm a little bit too old for one of those scooters.
Philine: Me, too - many thanks, Brian! I am just reading in our newspaper that there are already some accidents in the streets between cars, bikes and e-scooters.
Not something I'd want to try on any city street!
Philine: I agree with your opinion. Many thanks, Prof. Wilson!
They're everywhere here, too, Philine! I'd like to try...
