This is wonderful, Philine and love this statue and I love the series. However without sounding like a Neanderthaler, I only know the lady of Wednesday and she is sitting across from me at the table wink...

Do not tangle with me, she is implying. Some women are good to look at, but getting close is quite another matter..

Haha!! I know some ladies which have sharp "claws" but not quite the same as these. Best not to mess with her. It's a fine sculpture.
Très belle photo , je ne connais pas cette dame
A lady not to be messed with, but I confess I don't know who she is

You have to know something about ancient times, to know this one. In the Egyptian dynasties, this will be a male statue, but in Greek mythology, the sphinx is a female. Most people would expect an Egyptian hairstyle and not a female - in order to arrive at a sphinx.

The sphinx is an evil creature that asks riddles and those who cannot answer it have suffered the fate of being killed and eaten by the monster according to mythological stories. When Oedipus answered her riddle correctly, she killed herself.
Philine: You have good knowledge, yes, I know this famous riddle of the Spinx Oedipus answered. The Sphinx has also an apotropaic meaning, and in this point I wanted to understand her today. My brother has just well survived an 8 hours long operation (brain tumor). Ontzettend bedankt, Louis!
If, as Louis suggests, it is the Sphinx then I'd always thought it was male.
i don't know this lady Philine... but i wouldn't ask her out to dinner... just in case that i am dinner....petersmile
