photoblog image Sheep Saturday in wintertime

Sheep Saturday in wintertime

Two days ago I was so happy to see this big  flock of about 400 sheep (with some lambs) grazing in the Ilm valley in Weimar just next the garden house of Goethe. It was a rather cold winterday at about  -2 degr. C.  I spoke with the shepherd about his job. Even at night the sheep are living outside in the nature.

Please, excuse my lack of comments today, I am taking part in a literature seminar about Goethe' s "West- Eastern Diwan" (1819).

Lambing must be very early in Weimar, Philine. I like your woolly foggy image
Philine: The lambs I saw here were already grown up a bit. The lambs are usually born in March/April as the shepherd said to me. Many thanks, Lisl!

This is a magnificent photograph Philine.
This is one of your nicest images I have seen. So beautiful with the frosty atmosphere. Really lovely.
The light on these sheep is beautiful.
you framed this flock beautifully under the tree and the morning mist in the background....petersmile

Oooeer... want a delight this is. I love the frost on the tree especially. The sheep seem intent on building up their fat reserves to keep out the cold. The woolly coats help, too.
