"Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel) in Würzburg is a late Gothic hall church. The construction started in 1377 and was finished in 1480 with the erection of a church tower. Elaborate ornamentation, especially in the arches of the doorways (figures of Adam and Eve by Tilman Riemenschneider – the originals are now on display in the Mainfränkisches Museum, replaced by replicas from 1975). Interior was replaced after fire damage in 1945."
"The church bell tower with the gilded Immaculata figurine at the top soars 70 metres into the sky." This figurine is also a weathervane. St. Mary might be a patron of Würzburg and Franconia. When and where did I see as many sculptures of St. Mary as here? A little collection of St. Mary figures will follow this week.
